The edwardsi is the only Sisturus found in the Trans-Pecos. Although it covers a wide range, it is not commonly encountered in most areas. They are found in all the counties of the Trans-Pecos.
Although they are called a desert massasauga, they prefer prairie grasslands as habitat in the Trans-Pecos region. They are a small rattlesnake, usually less than 18". The record is a bit over 20".
This female is from outside the Trans-Pecos, in Andrews county.
