(Arizona elegans)

There are three subspecies of glossy snakes found in Texas, but only one in this range.. These snakes have gotten short shrift as pets. They do not get very large, have wonderful dispositions and do well in captivity.
Arizona e. elegans

The Kansas glossy snake is found in all the counties in the range of this work. There is some variation in their coloring. The ones which I have found in the Big Bend area tend to be a bit more greenish rather than brownish and often have a creamy background color.
This specimen was collected near Van Horn in Culberson County.
